Essay of the week - First NFT all-nighter 🚀
Time: 6PM (5th July 2022)
I met Joshua at Third wave cafe and had a long conversation on NFTs, Web3, growth, consulting, etc. The best part was being a part of his private telegram channel.
Private groups are the cornerstone of Web3.
And here's a little bit about private closed groups:
Take risks, make money
Global & diverse members.
Ask questions & clear doubts.
Share your research with others.
We were a couple of coffees down and we just kept geeking through the NFT & Web3 world for 3 straight hours. Then I took him to meet more interesting frens.
After that we went to Truffles, stuffed ourselves with cheese burgers and dropped him home.
Time: 11.30PM (5th July)
Went to DSH and the next minute I got on a call with Saurabh from The Product House. We are cooking something interesting *launching soon*
After the call, I was just chilling on Opensea and HarshillAnand asked me an interesting question.
HA:- Have you heard about ENS passports?
Prado:- wait, what again?
HA:- There is a trend going on where people are buying specific ENS with flag emojis + 2-3 digit numbers.
Example: 🇮🇳420.eth, 🇬🇧783.eth
I got curious.
I started digging and Harshill shared a thread with me. How to bulk check available ENS addresses.
The goal was basically to ape into a few ENS early and flip them.
We went through the similar web analytics of Opensea and figured out the countries with the most visits.
These were the top 5:
- US 🇺🇸
- China 🇨🇳
- UK 🇬🇧
- Canada 🇨🇦
- Japan 🇯🇵
US, China and UK were sold out. 🇺🇸01.eth to 🇺🇸999.eth - All gone.
Same for UK & China. It's an exclusive club now. FOMO plays a very vital role here.
Also, this was around 12.30AM. We were burning the midnight oil to experience something interesting.
We switched to the secondary market. Opensea.
Time: 3AM (6th July)
We found a couple of 3-digit ENS for $10-$15 in the secondary market.
The time is 3.30 AM and we are exhausted.
There were clubs made. Private groups, Discord servers, Twitter accounts, etc. The @EnsSalesBot was going nuts. Crazy sales were happening.
Then we found something interesting. These ENS were registered only for 3months (We didn't we could do that)
We went to ens.domains and realised you can register for less. $1 for 3months.
Then we found a few accounts that bulk bought these ENS and paid gas only once and flipped them.
Buy ENS 1000 for $1 each + one-time gas of $50-$100 Sell them on Opensea for $5 to $10 each. Nobody minds paying a few dollars for showing off.
$5000 - $8000 made in no time.
Again this is hypothetical. I'm not sure if anyone did it on that level but 20-50 domains. yes.
This whole thing made me think how everything is rigged AF.
Time: 4AM now. I need coffee.
I haven't slept yet. I have to wake up at 8AM because I have a call with @TPan_nft
Then it hit me, he's any way up now. Let's see if he can get on a call now. He said yes. 30mins.
I and ShubhamTotu drove to my fav night time coffee + sandwich place. We had an amazing coffee and drove back. The call started at 4.45 AM
I and Tpan talked about creating content, NFTs, and things that the web3 world lacks. Quality Education. He writes a daily newsletter on NFTs (Mon-Fri)
He's been in space since Jan 2021
I realised I have so much to learn from him. He suggested I should do Twitter spaces and share the things I know.
But my philosophy is simple: "Write to learn, Speak to teach" But then it hit me, I can use it to learn plus help others learn too.
The call got done. It was 5.45AM I went back to check my opensea, If anyone bought 🇨🇳796.eth that I had listed. No luck there.
I realised I'm probably late because this hype is already 12 hours old.
I was about to go to sleep and something caught my eye in my collection. I had minted an NFT a couple of days on copebear.lol
Very interesting collection. First-ever ERC-5050 based NFTs (It's basically 50% pay and 50% get free mints) I bought one for like $5
Last night before going to sleep I saw the floor price at 0.038ETH I was wtf.
Why is anyone buying this project? It doesn't have any discord, no utility, just a meme NFT.
Why would anyone pay $40 for this?
I put my NFT on sale and within a minute I get a mail from OS
$8 investment, $35 return. 4x in a couple of days.
I had only one and I sold it. Right now its floor is at 0.125ETH I could've made $125 but I sold too early.
I was happy that I sold an NFT and made good money. Went to bed realising how much I learned in just the last 12 hours.
Time: It's 6.30 AM and all I can think about is what @iamgaurangdesai told me "People in web3 need more on-chain activity"
Conclusion: The best way to learn web3 is by doing it (Tweet)
I wrote this as a thread on Wednesday and today is Friday. I surprised my cousins, we watched the movie and spent time with my parents and family.
Final update: I sold 🇨🇳796.eth for a loss.
I had no choice. The expiration was in 30days. Either sell in loss and save some money or loss all the money. or buy again which wouldn’t make sense at all.
Anyway, this whole thing was an amazing experience. My NFT journey starts here.
