Essay of the week - Sold my first NFT this week πŸ™Œ

It was the last week of August, I was spending my Sunday chilling and had a couple of hours before India vs Pakistan match started.

I put out a tweet asking people to suggest me something to paint and the rest is history.

I ended up creating this πŸ‘† and you can read the entire story behind this NFT here

If you don’t have the time to read it, it’s alright. I created a screenshot essay of this storyπŸ‘‡

Art πŸ‘†
The Real Art #BehindTheStory

It took me an hour to draw the whole thing, but the story… the story took more than a week πŸ™Œ

During the entire week, I had multiple thoughts and questions about this whole thing.

Should I make it an NFT or not?
What if no one buys?
What if people don’t realise that the real art is not the drawing but the story behind it? My writing about the art is what they are paying for.

As I spent more time, I realised I was overthinking this. Just push it.

Then I had a thought what if I document all the experiments I do with NFTs?

That’s when I came up with 100NFTs.xyz

Here’s what the 24 hours before my NFT launch looked like:

I had 3 things on my To-do list

  1. Build a website on wix.com for 100NFTs.xyz

  2. Write the #BehindTheStory on Mirror.xyz

  3. Create and publish the NFT of the Opensea Platform.

I don’t code so I had to do everything with No-code.

I went to wix.com and made a simple text-based website.

I couldn’t completely finish it because I was not sure about the copy… so I went to sleep and started working on it early in the morning.

6 hours before the launch:

I got a surprise offer of 50% from wix. I was like damn. that’s good.

I built the website and paid about β‚Ή1000 for a year + free domain. Perf.

Then I spent the next couple of hours focusing on the story part and publishing it on Mirror as #BehindTheStory.

I wrote it and when I was publishing I got to know that they do it on optimism and not Eth. FML.

I wanted to make it available for anyone who has ETH on Ethereum mainnet. Now people have to transfer ETH to optimism blockchain and buy my free #BehindTheStory NFT (I think it’s too much)

I wanted to people to join the Yellow Town holders-only Twitter group but now I have to figure something else out. I’ll be figuring this out later this weekend and will talk about how you can get into the main group.

Also, DM me to get on the private list πŸ™Œ

Next, make an NFT on Opensea.

I added all the details and then I got to know I have to make a collection. Made one of that, priced the NFT at 0.05 ETH (about $72) and baam publish

After publishing everything, I started hitting up friends.

Few gave constructive feedback

I got more ideas for future products.

I texted a few friends as I wanted them to buy my first buyers. None of them supported it. Maybe it’s the bear market.

I went to bed and realised I don’t think anyone was going to buy it. Maybe I priced it too high. Maybe now was not the right time.

Then I got to know that the NFT is centralised. I quickly changed it.

I just realised that this NFT was on the Opensea server - Centralised. Just added the metadata to IPFS πŸš€

I woke up the next morning with good energy in me. I wanted to celebrate that I took the plunge. I watched Top Gun Maverick and learned the best quote cause that’s exactly what I had done that day morning.

I woke up, had a big breakfast and went to work.

I thought I should lower the price. Maybe more people will be interested.

I lowered it to 0.02ETH ($32)

I think 7 mins before the listing gets over, my dear friend Lazypoet bought it.

I have learned lots of things in the process. Most importantly that there were people who wanted me to fail on this one.

The experience was enriching.

I will be experimenting with more NFTs on 100NFTs.xyz

DM me to get on the private list.

Thank you for reading πŸ™Œ

10 interesting things about this week will be published later this weekend. It’ll be updated on the website but you won’t get it in your mail. Sorry and thnk you for understanding.
