Essay of the week - 15 ways to prevent burnout
okay, before I write another wordβ¦ I want to apologize to everyone for not writing in the past few months. I met a friend couple of weeks ago and he asked me why did I stopped writing. valid question. i could say work but the right answer is this newsletter has always been a space for me where I donβt feel like iβm working.
I had reached a point where it felt like it was work. finally today, writing these words is giving me immense pleasure. A feeling of freedom. A place of love and no judgement.
Sometimes you have to go away to really know what you miss and love. I clearly missed writing these newsletters. hopefully, i donβt break the streak this time.
15 ways to prevent burnout:
1. Go to a bookstore (and spend hours there)*
2. β watch reels
3. β draw whatβs in front of you (or just doodle)
4. β talk to mom or dad
5. β go on a road trip or solo travel (for a minimum of 3 days)
6. β call up a friend and cry
7. β write a sugarcube* (sugarcube = handwritten letters)
8. β have a good cup of tea
9. β learn something new (Duolingo it)
10. β go to a bouldering gym
11. β buy/send some a gift
12. β eat alone if you are with someone. eat with someone if you are not.
13. β write a stupid list of ways you feel better and not burnout (I made this list lol)
14. β find god
15. β get a massage
Bonus pointers:
go to a coffee shop, try a new drink.
recreate memes (hawk tuah that random ass drink)
eat a briyani and go take an afternoon nap
listen to one song repeat (iβm listening to KEHLANI by Jordan Adetunji)
masturbate
learn how to use chopsticks and use it to eat your everyday meal (i recently found my love for chopsticks and now iβm eating fruits because i want to use chopsticks)
never thought thisβll be a great way to lose weightrewatch a tv series
take 100 photos (pick a topic, theme, number, colour - anywhere you see them, click it)
download a dating app, chat with a few and delete it.
watch more reels while you're in the restroom.
get a haircut
eat a cake
cook something thatβs
make an easy to-do list and complete it. Sometimes all you need is a W
buy perfume
(*) - if you do end going to the bookstore and spend more than 20mins, you must buy a few books at the store.
my philosophy is, if iβm walking on a road and an artist caught my attention with his art, I owe him a penny.
if we wonβt buy books from a bookstore, they will die soon (they are on a huge decline)
A world without bookstores is a world not worth living in.
Fun Fact:
I wrote this newsletter draft on my WhatsApp notes within 5 minutes.
I walked to a bookstore to prevent burnout, opened a book and found this page π
This is where the inspiration for this newsletter came from.
