Essay of the week - Building the future
This week I watched the movie “The French Dispatch” by Wes Anderson (Great movie) and there was an incredible scene.
Simone: What do you want to paint?
Artist: The Future.
This is just an interesting reply.
I paused the movie and started wondering.
What can I build whenever people ask me “What am I building?” and I can reply with “The Future”
I realised that technology like blockchain and AI has a huge potential going ahead and we are working towards the future.
It’ll also be really cool to reply “The future” whenever someone asks you that.
Later that night, I started wondering again.
I’m thinking about this whole thing the wrong way.
Rather than thinking about what will I reply to someone I should be thinking about what problem am I solving.
I’d be really stupid to work on something just because I can sound cool in front of friends.
I should be solving problems and building something that lasts longer than I do.
We are a work-before-love generation spending too much time thinking about our non-existent reputation.
Conclusion:
Don’t spend too much time thinking about what will you reply to people.
It’s like thinking about what will people think or say (In Hindi, there is a saying “Log kya kahenge”Don’t do it.
Build something that solves a problem.
Build something that lasts longer than you do.
These are not advice, these are notes to self :)
