Essay of the week - Dentist Vyom
Last weekend, I met a friend who’s studying Dentistry and comes to BLR for some fellowships.
He was there for a week last time and we met on the last night and had a great conversation. I asked him a few curious questions about dental health, and he answered them and we vibed.
Soon realised that he knows what he was talking about and that we have lots of similarities.
He came back to BLR again for a week. We met on Saturday night and chilled a bit.
Sunday morning, we went to Cubbon Book Club (S/O to Ankit for organising it)
Met some great people and had some incredible conversations on books, philosophy, writing, optimistic nihilism and many more.
The weekend went well.
The next day, Vyom and I started having more interesting conversations.
Here are some of the curious questions I asked him:
Why do they call it a wisdom tooth?
What’s the right way to brush your teeth?
How often should we floss and use mouthwash?
I also used a quick search on the word “Teeth” and “Dentist” through my note-taking app and got a few interesting questions out of it. These are a few 👇
Stem Cell Banking and is it really worth it?
I remember reading this on Reddit a while ago and just saved it to my roam. He enjoyed my curiosity and I enjoyed fulfilling my curiosity.
One of my favourite questions was about the colour at the bottom of toothpaste and what does it mean?
I remember coming across this picture on the internet a long time ago and I thought this was very interesting.
Because why not, this is very closely related to the Veg (Green dot) and Non-veg symbols
Plus, we’ve always been told that Natural is better than chemicals.
Back to our conversation.
He explained this whole thing to me and I asked him to explain because I want to record it for my note-taking app.
TL:DR version of the above notes:
Patanjali and Colgate are made of the same stuff. Colgate just has more Fluoride in it.
Fluoride is good for teeth. He gave me an entire chemistry lesson on how it works but I gave up halfway.
Colgate & Sensodyne and any white toothpaste are better than Patanjali and stuff.
I have an entire 8-minute recording of our conversation. Let me know if you need access to it.
Here’s a blog written by Colgate debugging the myth
When he was in BLR last time, I told him that he should start making content and share his dental knowledge. He liked the idea. He’s not a social person though. He doesn’t even have an IG account.
I told him again this time and we got to work.
We started brainstorming more ideas and how can we put his knowledge out.
We believe the best and fastest way is to make reels. I’ll be sharing more info very soon.
But if you need insider access, send me a DM on Twitter.
I’m thinking to make a group where I share every single step of how we build a personal brand of Dentist Vyom on social media and educate millions of people.
It’s currently in the ideation stage but soon I’ll be making it an exclusive subscribers-only group.
Conclusion:
I met a great friend who loves what he does. I believe everyone must know the basics of dental health and brush their teeth twice a day.
Feel free to ask any questions or share any ideas. Let’s fulfil our curiosities.
