Essay of the week - InterestingRoad.com

This is a project that I wanted to work on for the past few years. A simple Whatsapp group where I share the interesting things I find on the internet.

Usually, I share the top 10 things I found and share them in my newsletter (Check the 10 interesting things for you section below)

But apart from the top 10, I also encounter 40-50 more things weekly. They are just dumped in my note-taking app. I thought I should share them with my friends.

So what do I do? I created a Whatsapp group and start sending stuff.

Then, out of nowhere, Elon says you have Twitter view limits. Anyone who doesn’t pay for the blue tick can only view 600 tweets daily. What a time we live in.

But I checked when I clicked on a tweet link from a different platform I was able to read it. It makes sense. Twitter want more people to come from outside.

I thought this was a good idea and soft launch it.

Around 800+ people showed interest. I set this tweet up with an Auto DMs tool but it messed up and only 100 people got the DM :) great start.

I called up a friend of mine who helps me out with my tech things. I bought the domain a couple of months ago and I realised I should get a one-pager website out.

Got on a call with him, set up the website on WordPress, used elementor editor and started working on the website.

Took me more than 3-4 days as I was travelling but finally completed it.

Goal of this project:

The goal is to learn one interesting thing every day and do it for a decade.

This was a tweet I had written a couple of years ago and I finally see it taking shape.

The goal is to make an interesting road of things I or we come across from the internet and eventually connect dots.

We wanted to take the other side of most business advice - Go for a niche.

I thought what if we do the opposite? What if we challenge the social media Algo?

I’ve written on the website “Don’t let social media algo define your information diet”

I opened my roam research and started jotting down things and topics I have in mind.

I also added this picture to my website because it’s very raw.

Let’s talk about the future:

Honestly, there are no plans for the future.

A few folks asked me if I can make this a broadcast rather than a WhatsApp group.

I also got a few questions on if there is a group to discuss the links that are being put on the main group.

For this very reason, I’ve created another group for Members-Only.

There are 2 ways to be a member.

A member nominating someone else as a contributing member.

We already have one person join the members-only group through the referral system.

There is a possibility of a third way. I’m still exploring this option where anyone can join the members-only group by getting a subscription. It’s still very early for this and I don’t want to figure this out right now.

Making money has never been the goal of this project. But if you want to pay, I’d be happy to set up a membership subscription link. If we have enough traction, I’ll set it up.

I believe this is a great side project for me where I share the interesting things I come across and meet some great people in the process.
