Essay of the week - More Ambition or More Money?
A few months back, I opened my WhatsApp and jotted down something I had in my mind.
I don’t remember what I was thinking about… it was 2 AM and I clearly haven’t slept yet. I probably had one of those philosophical questions in my mind that I wanted to answer, before going to sleep.
Here’s a conversation between my past and my present self:
Bold - Past self.
Normal - Present self.
Let’s break it down:
It feels like nothing inspires me anymore. Inspiration has gone out of my life. - this line probably means I’m packed with work and don’t have enough room to creatively think about things. I hate this stage of my life. Just because I hate it doesn’t mean it’s not necessary.
Nothing else matters, except making money. - if not now, then when?
I’m completely okay with it. - What other choice do you have?
A lot depends on how I set up the foundation to make money in the next two years, how much liquid I have in the next 5, and how I plan the next 20. - I’d suggest breaking down those two years into even smaller goals. If you are going to make money, then set deadlines and follow them. Convert two years into 2 months.
Am I being foolish? Maybe.
Should I be more selfish? Probably.
Should I be more ambitious or should I make more money?
Ambition comes with a cost. - What cost is worth paying?
You will get lots of calls for opportunities. The question is would you pick it? - how do you figure out which opportunities to pick? how often do you say no?
I realized that there is no end to asking questions. Most questions lead to more questions. Let’s just do what we do best :)
