Essay of the week - The Butterfly Effect
This week, I spent some time compressing an old tweet of mine ๐
โWhen people talk about travelling to the past, they believe that doing something small can radically changing the present... but barely anyone in the present actually believes that by doing something small today, they can radically change the futureโ (link)
I wanted to figure out if is there a way to simplify this quote.
I came up with this ๐
Doing something small in the past would've radically changed your present.
Doing something small today will radically change your future.
Philosophically, this was an important thing to think about.
Thatโs when it hit meโฆ there is a word for this effect. Itโs called Ripple Effect
Ripple Effect is also called as Butterfly Effect.
โDoes the flap of a butterflyโs wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?โ
Jamie L. Vernon says, The concept referred to as theย butterfly effectย has been embraced by popular culture, where the term is often used to emphasize the outsized significance of minute occurrencesโย
As I went deeper into this topic, I wanted to jot down a few small things we can do today that can have a huge impact on our future. I want to share 20 of them.
โSmall things, the tiny details, these are the things that matter in life โ the little glint in the eye, curve of a lip, nod of a head, wave of a hand โ such minuscule movements have huge ripple effects.โ โ Shaun Hick

"What would happen if you never wasted another minute of your life? How would your life look? Would you cure cancer, win a Nobel peace prize, figure out time travel so you can relive the minutes wasted, and improve upon them? Probably not. However, there are many impactful things you could do if you took the time to be intentional. If you are off track, a simple exercise you can do right now is take 5 minutes and plan out your next 5 hours." - Teronie Donaldson
