Essay of the week - Web 3.0 is AI, Not Crypto
This week, A great friend of mine tweeted a question - What’s the one cancelable take you truly believe in?
And I couldn’t stop myself from replying.
This is something I’ve been thinking a lot about for the past few weeks.
“Web3 = Read. Write. Own” - Chris Dixon.
This is a quote that’s been going around for a while.
A few months ago, I met up with my founder friends. It was more like a Web3 roast.
Soon the roast turned into a discussion and they asked me a question.
“Don’t you think it’s extremely disrespectful for the successful founders of the current world to be called Web2 founders? Have you given it a thought that this whole thing might be hype? A new way to sound cool?
Now, some of them never actually got around to diving deep into the technology. Some of them did and were convinced that there is better technology out there like a P2P network (Something that torrents use)
And some were convinced and wanted to build a decentralised world.
It was a great debate/discussion and I was only there to listen.
After ChatGPT came out, lots of builders want to build on AI.
The world of web3 has been trying hard to figure out how can we onboard a billion people.
ChatGPT reached 100M users in 2 months. How many people have interacted with a Dapp?
Maybe… just maybe web 3.0 is not crypto but rather AI.
“Read. Write. Automate” is the new web3
If the world of the internet is one big circle, one half is read. write. automate. & The other half is blockchain technology and crypto-economics.
Crypto requires the whole other side of the internet.
You might have these questions in your mind:
Prado, what are you trying to say?
Which side are you on?
Why are we even having this conversation?
What’s the conclusion here?
1. Prado, what are you trying to say?
Honestly, I don’t know anymore. I’m just trying to put my perspective out there.
I believe that lotta things happening in the world is like a sword fight you see from afar but when you get closer, you know that they are fighting with plastic swords.
Everyone is just trying to survive.
2. Which side are you on?
I’m on the side of the building.
Anyone who builds anything that provides some kind of value to the world. It doesn’t matter what tech they use. AI or blockchain. I’m on the side of the building.
IMHO I think now is the best time to build in the world of blockchains.
One of my favourite communities for the past year is SuperteamDAO. They’ve been doing some incredible work. The community is as strong as a brotherhood. Pioneers of the whole space.
“A sufficiently-decentralised world is inevitable. But before that happens, most of the things will be automated.” - My prediction for the year 2050
3. Why are we having this conversation?
I know this is a dumb conversation.
As Austin Kleon says, Focus on the verb, not the noun.
Let’s focus on building and not on what to call it :) Web3 or not, let’s keep building.
4. What’s the conclusion here?
The conclusion I want to make is that explore and work towards something you completely believe in. Build no matter what.
